Every serious poker player needs a set of custom poker chips. These are the height of a true high rolling poker player’s collection. Choose Your Material
You’ll need to decide the material from which you want your poker chips made. There are several different varieties from which to choose. The most common materials used include plastic, composite and clay. Clay chips are considered to be the best, and are the material most often used for custom chips made for serious poker players.

Today’s clay chips are not made purely of clay, though the original clay chips were. They are made from a clay composition material that is far more durable than pure clay. However, these chips are still not indestructible. They are durable enough for normal play, but can still break. They can only be washed by hand, and then must be quickly dried. Clay chips will typically last an owner a lifetime under normal home playing conditions, if they are well cared for.

You can also buy poker chips in plastic or composite materials. These are less expensive, but they don’t have the great feel of clay chips and they are not as durable. Businesses and clubs that have custom poker chips made for advertisement, fund raisers or as little giveaways typically use plastic chips.
