Poker Chip Sets

Serious poker players want to own their own chips, so that they can host poker games at home. Regardless of the number of chips you need, you’ll want to purchase at least some of them in poker chip sets.

Most poker chip retailers will allow you to purchase poker chips individually, but this option should be used simply to supplement your poker chip set. You should choose your poker chip set based on the number you think you’ll need, and supplement later, if required.

Keep in mind that matching your original poker chips may be difficult later, so it’s wise to buy a poker chip set a little larger than you think you need. This is especially important if you purchase custom poker chip sets. It would be very expensive to add just a few poker chips to your set.

In general, experts suggest that you buy a 300 piece poker chip set if you normally have 4-6 players, and a 500 piece poker chip set if you normally have 8-10 players.

Poker chips sets come in a variety of materials. The most expensive is clay, and these are considered the premium of poker chips. A clay poker chip set will cost you more than sets made of other materials, but with proper care, they’ll provide a lifetime of home use.

You’ll also find composite poker chips that are made from resin with a little metal added for weight. The least expensive poker chips are those made from plastic. Be prepared that these may break easily after a few years of normal wear. These inexpensive poker chips are designed to be purchased as giveaways or advertisements, not for serious long term poker playing.

The really serious poker player often wants custom designed poker chips. Poker chips can be custom made with nearly any design you choose; you can even have a poker chip with your picture on it! For custom designed poker chips, you typically have to simply send the chip maker a digital picture file of the image that you want on the center of your chips.

Poker chips are a must for any poker player who hosts poker games at home. You have many options to choose from and many places at which to purchase your poker chips. Choose carefully; you want your poker chips to look great and last for many years to come.
