Poker Chips

Poker chips come in as many varieties as the poker players themselves. Choosing the right set for you may take some time and some shopping around. Here are some things you need to know about purchasing poker chips.

First of all, poker chips are made from many different materials. Most of the poker chips in home sets today are made from plastic or composite. Composite sets contain resin with a small amount of metal, so that they weigh properly. Regulations require that poker chips have a particular weight. Some higher end poker chips are made of clay or wood. Many of the high stakes poker players will only buy clay poker chips, as many consider these to be of the highest quality.

Poker chips come in many different colors and designs. You can find poker chips depicting your favorite football team, favorite school colors or your favorite casino. You can even buy personalized poker chips. Chips are usually two toned or have three colors. Traditionally, poker chips came in three styles.

• Dice style poker chips feature the face of each side of the dice around the outside edge of the chips.

• Suits style poker chips feature the four card suits around the edges of the chips

• Diamond style poker chips feature diamonds around the edge of the chips.

Today, you can find far more styles than these, but many purists insist on one of these three traditional styles. .

In addition to buying poker chips for playing poker, many people collect poker chip sets. Old poker chip sets, particularly if they are complete and in excellent condition, can be quite valuable.

You’ll need to buy a poker chips set that is large enough to accommodate the number of players you typically host. If your poker games are usually made up of 4-6 players, you’ll need a 300 poker chip set. If you normally have 8-10 players, a 500 poker chip set will be best for you.

Once you’ve purchased your poker chips, you’ll need a case in which to house them. You can buy sets already in cases, or purchase the two items separately. Round cases with slots for the chips, by denomination, work very well because they fit nicely on your poker table.

Everyone who regularly hosts poker games needs a good set of poker chips. Shop around until you find just the right set to suit your style and your budget.
